Daily HealthBeat Tip

A little drink

From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Im Ira Dreyfuss with HHS HealthBeat.

Live right in other ways, and a couple of drinks might do your heart good. Thats how it looks in a review of the health histories of almost 9,000 men.

These men stayed trim, did at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, and had healthy diets. Some also had a couple drinks a day others had more, or had less.

Researchers looked at heart attack rates. Their study in Archives of Internal Medicine was supported by the National Institutes of Health. Kenneth Mukamal of Harvard-affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center:

"Amongst men who had one half to one, or one and one half to two, drinks per day, they had a 40- to 60-percent lower risk of having a heart attack than did the abstainers." (nine seconds)

Men who drank more didnt gain from it.
