The Office of Child Support EnforcementGiving Hope and Support to America's Children

DEAR COLLEAGUE LETTER

DCL-06-04

DATE: January 17, 2006

TO: ALL STATE AND TRIBAL IV-D DIRECTORS

RE: Convey Office of the Inspector General Report

Dear Colleague:

The Office of the Inspector General has completed a report entitled: “Eight-State Review of the Ability of Noncustodial Parents To Contribute Toward the Medical Costs of the Title IV-D Children That Were Paid Under the Medicaid Program,” (A-01-03-02501).

This report consolidates the results of an eight-State review of the ability of noncustodial parents to contribute toward the Medicaid costs of Title IV-D children. The objective was to estimate the potential savings to the Medicaid program if noncustodial parents had been required to contribute toward the Medicaid costs incurred for their children. States can reduce State and Federal Medicaid costs by increasing the number of noncustodial parents who provide medical support for their children.

We are providing you with the internet site to view this report: http://oig.hhs.gov/oas/reports/region1/10302501.htm

Sincerely,

Margot Bean
Commissioner
Office of Child Support Enforcement
