DEAR COLLEAGUE LETTER
DCL-06-03
ATTACHMENT: Tribal IV-D Programs Contact Information
DATE: January 17, 2006
TO: ALL IV-D DIRECTORS
RE: Tribal Child Support Enforcement Programs
Dear Colleague:
As you know, federally recognized Tribes may apply for, and upon approval, receive funding to operate Child Support Enforcement programs meeting the requirements of 45 CFR part 309. To date, OCSE has approved funding for nine Tribal IV-D programs. In addition, we have approved start-up funding for twelve Tribes to build IV-D programs meeting the requirements of the regulation within two years of funding.
Contact information for each Tribal IV-D program is on the attached chart. This information will also be kept up-to-date on our website at: http://ocse.acf.hhs.gov/int/directories/tribaldirectors.cfm
This is an exciting time in the child support enforcement community and the addition of these programs provides much-needed services that may not have been previously available. While not every State may have an Indian Tribe within its borders, Tribal and State IV-D programs will surely intersect and have occasion to work cooperatively.
States are reminded of the State plan requirement (pre-print page 2.6, Provision of Services in Interstate and Intergovernmental IV-D Cases) to cooperate with Tribal IV-D programs and extend the full range of services available under their IV-D plans.
If you have questions concerning specific Tribal IV-D programs, please contact the Tribe directly. You may also contact your Regional Office for information.
Please join me in welcoming these new Tribal IV-D agencies to the child support community and reaffirming your commitment to work with those already in operation.
Sincerely,
Margot Bean
Commissioner
Office of Child Support Enforcement
