Reaping Results from Soil Surveys

 

Real estate begins with soil. Soil characteristics determine a property’s potential uses. For decades, soil surveys conducted by the USDA-NRCS and its predecessors have provided a wealth of information on soil properties in locations across the country. Farmers, ranchers, engineers, developers, land-use planners, park and recreational area planners, appraisers, homebuyers and homeowners all benefit from soil survey data, which are valuable when planning property management strategies.

Texas Adds 904 Acres to USDA’S Wetlands Reserve Program

 

Texas has enrolled 904 new acres in the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) since May 2008. To date, more than two million acres have been enrolled in WRP, nationally, helping exceed the Federal government’s three-year goal of increasing the number and size of America’s wetlands.

Assistance Available to Repair Watersheds After Hurricane Ike
 

Communities that have suffered damage to watershed areas from Hurricane Ike may be eligible for assistance from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).  NRCS’s Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) program is designed to reduce threats to life and property from watershed impairment, such as erosion, debris, and sediment. These impairments can cause additional flooding, soil erosion, and damage to infrastructure.
