The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) Peer Analysis System
is a tool designed to enable a user to compare a postsecondary institution of the
users choice - termed the Focus in this system - to a group of peer
institutions which are also selected by the user. Such comparisons are done by generating reports using selected
variables from the IPEDS variables of interest.
To Use the Peer Analysis System (PAS) you will need to :
- Select the permitted level of access to the IPEDS data that is appropriate
- Designate the Focus institution for comparisons; usually this is the
user's home institution
- Build a comparison group by selecting other institutions by:
- Name or UnitID
- Using the Auto Peer Group Option, or by
- Specifying certain institutional parameters, such as enrollment above
15,000 students
- Select those variables from the IPEDS data for comparisons
- Specify the types of comparisons to make in final reports.
The IPEDS Dataset Cutting Tool allows users to create a customized IPEDS dataset to meet unique data needs, or to download IPEDS data files in CSV format. Both options provide a data dictionary as well as read programs to import the data into the SAS, SPSS, or STATA statistical packages.
To begin/ select level of access below:

-
Guest Level: This level is open to the public,
and will allow you to access adjudicated data.
- Institution Level: To get in at this level, use your institution's UnitID for both
user id and password. If that UnitID is found in our database, you will get access to guest level files plus early release data. The early release files are provided for peer analysis only, and should not be used to provide aggregate estimates.
- Collection Level: This level is available only for
institutions that submitted their data to our systems electronically using our data entry
facilities. The user ID and password are the same used in the collection system.
