American Planning Association (APA) Federal Planning Awards

To recognize excellence in federal planning, the American Planning Association (APA) Federal Planning Division (FPD) sponsors this award. FPD has the following six award categories:

  • Outstanding Federal Planning Program
  • Outstanding Federal Planning Project
  • Area Development Plan
  • Environmental Planning Excellence
  • Outstanding Collaborative Planning Project or Program

Nominations must pertain to Federal installations, programs, or properties. Any interested party may submit a nomination. FPD membership is not required for nomination.

Association of Government Accountants Achievement of the Year Award

To accord national recognition for leadership or outstanding achievement in developing, implementing, and improving financial management in Government service in the past year. Nominees must have been employed in Government service in the past year. They do not have to be members of the Association of Government Accountants.

Association of Government Accountants Frank Greathouse Distinguished Leadership Award

To formally recognize Government employees who have demonstrated sustained outstanding leadership and notable contributions to financial management, and to encourage increased interest, growth, development, and distinctive leadership in the field of financial management. The individual nominated must have been employed in Government service at the time the work being recognized was performed. They do not have to be members of the Association of Government Accountants.

Carnegie Medal for Heroism

Sponsored by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission to recognize outstanding acts of selfless heroism performed in the United States and Canada. An individual having knowledge of such outstanding acts or bravery may make recommendations for awards. Awards are open to all citizens.

Justice Tom C. Clark Award

Federal Property Manager of the Year Award

Sponsored by the National Property Management Association (NPMA) to provide recognition to individuals in the Federal Government for outstanding leadership and accomplishments in the property management field.

Nominee's activities and responsibilities should include one or more of the following property related functions: policy determination, program direction, acquisition, receiving, maintenance, physical inventory, subcontract administration, disposition, reporting, contract completion/termination, or the promulgation of law or regulation having a significant beneficial impact on Federal property management. NPMA membership is not required for nomination.

Arthur S. Flemming Awards

Sponsored by the George Washington University and Government Executive Magazine, in conjunction with the Arthur S. Flemming Awards Commission, to recognize those who have performed outstanding and meritorious work for the Federal Government; to encourage high standards of performance in Federal Government; to enhance appreciation of our form of government and the opportunities and responsibilities that it presents; and to attract outstanding persons to the Federal Government. Twelve separate awards will be made. Four awards will be made to individuals in the scientific or technical fields (Scientific), four to individuals in administrative or executive fields (Administrative), and four to individuals in information and technology fields (Applied Science).

Nominees may include anyone with no more than fifteen years of Government service who is an Executive Branch career Federal employee as of Dec. 31 of the year in which nominated. Awards will be made to individual Government employees who have made outstanding contributions to public service on either a sustained basis or through a single exceptional accomplishment during the past two years. Individuals previously nominated but not selected for a Flemming Award may be renominated.

General Services Administration Achievement Awards for Real Property Innovation

To recognize two Federal programs that demonstrate the best real property policy and the best real property practice in the Government. The awards program is designed to publicize real property success stories. Innovations may cover any function - from real property management to acquisition, construction, renovation, disposal, security, planning, integrated workplace, and alternative work environments.

Gold Star Award for Excellence in Implementing Federal Computers for Learning Programs

Recognizes a Federal agency's innovative implementation of Executive Order 12999. Agencies are encouraged to share their Computers for Learning innovative, cost-effective, or streamlined practices or policies that have improved access to computer technology in America's classrooms.

Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO) Public Service Awards

GEICO annually honors four Federal employees and one Federal retiree for their special achievements and contributions to public service. Award winners receive $2,500 prizes and an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. Employees are honored in four categories: substance abuse prevention and treatment; fire prevention and safety; physical rehabilitation; and traffic safety and accident prevention. The retiree is selected for making contributions in one of the four categories.
