New Unified Command Plan Spells Out Responsibilities, Missions
President George W. Bush has signed an updated unified command plan that codifies U.S. Africa Command, shifts responsibility for parts of the Caribbean Sea to U.S. Northern Command and assigns cyberspace and pandemic influenza missions to other combatant commanders.

Defense Department Launches New Advertising Campaign

The Department of Defense announced today its latest national television advertising campaign, "Conversations," which asks parents to have an open dialogue with sons and daughters who are exploring military service as an option.

Chief Master Sergeant Thomas S. Narofsky, the senior enlisted advisor at United States Strategic Command as of June 27, is inspiring the members of the command.

 

July 3, 2008: Commander of U.S. Strategic Command visits Top of the World  

“This trip was as unique as going into space,” said Gen. Kevin Chilton, commander of U.S. Strategic Command at the end of his whirlwind Thule Air Base tour July 1-2.

 

June 30, 2008: USSTRATCOM Fleet Master Chief wraps up 34 years of service   

U.S. Strategic Command bid farewell to U.S. Navy Fleet Master Chief William N. Nissen today during a retirement ceremony which celebrated his nearly three-and a half decades of military service.

 

June 24, 2008: USSTRATCOM senior enlisted leader retires  

U.S. Strategic Command will conduct a retirement ceremony for Master Chief William N. Nissen on June 27 at 10:30 a.m. Master Chief Nissen serves as the senior enlisted advisor to the Commander, USSTRATCOM, responsible for the global command and control of U.S. strategic forces to meet decisive national security objectives.

 

June 24, 2008: STRATCOM Units Win Prestigious Award - The Omaha Trophy  

The Omaha Trophy is presented annually to U.S. Strategic Command units demonstrating the highest standards of performance. Selection for the award is based on formal evaluations, meritorious achievement, safety, and other factors such as community involvement and humanitarian actions. The 2007 winners are:

Twelve Global Innovation and Strategy Center (GISC) interns unveiled the outcomes of a four-month study designed to develop solutions addressing topics of national interest during a presentation in the U.S. Strategic Command Theater Monday.

A new satellite is circling the Earth. The Wideband Global SATCOM (Satellite Communications) satellite is a reality. This is the most powerful communications satellite in the Department of Defense inventory.

 

April 28, 2008: USSTRATCOM commander unveils new shield, mission, vision for command

Gen. Kevin Chilton, commander of United States Strategic Command, met with his Joint Functional Component Commanders here April 23 and 24 and included the group in the unveiling of a new shield inlaid on the command building's floor.

A team of more than 130 military and civilian personnel throughout the U.S. Government were postured to recover debris and conduct consequence management operations following the Feb. 20 shoot down of a non-functional National Reconnaissance Office satellite.

More than two dozen federal agencies collaborated to shoot down a non-functional National Reconnaissance Office satellite Feb. 20, or to contend with the potential consequences of the satellite that was set to reenter the Earth’s atmosphere in early March.

University of Nebraska-Omaha students participating in the second U.S. Strategic Command-sponsored Global Innovation and Strategy Center  (GISC) internship program will present results of two research studies designed to identify potential National Security threats and remediation solutions associated with space debris and detection of underground tunnels.

 

November 9, 2007: Gen Chilton Awarded California Space Authority SpotBeam Award

Air Force Gen. Kevin P. Chilton, commander of U.S. Strategic Command, was awarded a California Space Authority SpotBeam Award at the 2007 Transforming Space Conference in Los Angeles, yesterday.

 

October 17, 2007: SecDef installs Gen Chilton as new USSTRATCOM Commander

Gen. Kevin P. Chilton was ceremoniously installed as the new Commander of U.S. Strategic Command by Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, here, today.

 

October 15, 2007: VADM Mauney assumes position of deputy commander, US Strategic Command

Navy Vice Adm. Carl V. Mauney assumed the position of Deputy Commander, U.S. Strategic Command, here, today.

 

October 15, 2007: USSTRATCOM Assumption of Command Ceremony

U.S. Strategic Command will hold an assumption of command of ceremony, here, at 9:00 a.m., October 17, 2007.

 

October 3, 2007: Gen Chilton assumes command of US Strategic Command

Air Force Gen. Kevin P. Chilton assumed command of U.S. Strategic Command from Lieutenant General C. Robert  Kehler, here, today.  A ceremony recognizing the assumption of command is expected to follow in the coming weeks.
