Variability in Site Vegetation via Middens

Enjoyed your paper.  

You focused on the large scale changes since the last 
Ice Age.  But what of shorter-term variation?  Are midden 
piles precise enough to look at the variabion in vegetation 
over a period of decades rather than millenia?  Are current
changes in vegetation in the SW of similar magnitude to
100 year changes in the past?
