Dear Mr. Chairman:

The Department issued enclosed DOE Order 226.1, Implementation of Department of Energy Oversight Policy, on September 15, 2005.  This completes Commitment 4B in the Department’s 2004-1 implementation plan.  In the process of developing this Order, the Department evaluated potential impacts on other nuclear safety directives and identified four directives that need to revised or developed on an expedited schedule to be consistent with the newly issued Order 226.1.  The Office of Primary Interest (OPI) for each of the following directives has agreed to revise or develop the following directives within one year of this date, so that these directives will be consistent with Order 226.1:

(1) New DOE Order 210.X, Corporate Operating Experience Program [OPI:EH]

(2) DOE Order 414.lC, Quality Assurance [OPI:EH]

(3) DOE Order 442.1A, Department of Energy Employee Concerns Program

[OPI: ED]

(4) DOE Order 470.2B, Independent Oversight and Performance Assurance Program

[OPI:OA]
