Perhaps the largest online gazetteer, this sophisticated database contains over 5 million place names world-wide. A pull-down menu allows searching by country. Records provide the name of each location or feature, variant spellings, latitude and longitude, and additional numeric data. Searches may focus on a variety of elements, such as populated place, administrative region, type of area, vegetation, and fresh- and saltwater features.
