Counselor to the General Counsel

The Counselor to the General Counsel is in the immediate office of the General Counsel and acts as a technical expert on legal and other matters to assist the General Counsel and the Deputy General Counsel on the formulation of policies and practices governing the Treasury Department as a whole and the Legal Division in particular. The Counselor to the General Counsel acts in an advisory capacity to top officials of the Department, and represents the General Counsel and the Deputy General Counsel at meetings and conferences where policy is developed or determined. The Counselor to the General Counsel performs special assignments as requested by the General Counsel that often cut across organizational divisions, including matters relating to Internal Revenue Service policies, corporate and securities law issues, and Departmental litigation.
