Dean Miller is a Materials Scientist and group leader of the Electron Microscopy Center for Materials Research. He received his B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering and Ph.D. in Materials Science, both from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. His thesis research, supported by an Office of Naval Research Fellowship, involved the synthesis, consolidation, and characterization of rapidly solidified intermetallic compounds. In 1989, he joined the Materials Science Division at Argonne as a Materials Scientist engaged in synthesis and characterization of complex electronic oxides including high-temperature superconductors and magnetic oxides. His current research activities continue to include synthesis of oxide thin films and self-assembled nanostructures as well as characterization of materials by electron beam methods.
