- Zanzibar's Example In Fighting Malaria - 02/19/08
Covering part of President and Mrs. Bush's six-day trip to Africa, this article in The Washington Post describes Tanzania's progress on the fight against malaria and includes interviews with local residents and clinicians. Also read remarks by President Bush on the White House Web site, "Within the next six months, the United States and Tanzania, in partnership with the World Bank and the Global Fund, will begin distributing 5.2 million free bed nets. This ambitious nationwide program will provide enough nets to protect every child between the ages of one and five in Tanzania." - State of the Union 2008: Advancing An Agenda Of Compassion Worldwide
President Bush asked Congress to expand our Nation's efforts to promote a global agenda of compassion around the world. Within this agenda President Bush spoke of PMI's success and future goals.
2007
- How the Malaria World Benefits from an Admiral - 12/19/07
Featured in a guest column on AllAfrica.com by Dr. Steven Phillips, Medical Director, ExxonMobil, Rear Adm. Tim Ziemer traveled to Mali for the formal launch of the PMI and to take part in a national integrated child health campaign targeting more than 2.8 million children under five. PMI is providing $1 million for the purchase of more than 200,000 long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets and additional support for community mobilization and follow-up efforts for malaria prevention. This effort is the sixth major public-private partnership activity for PMI this year.

The Washington Times published an editorial written by Rear Adm. Tim Ziemer, U.S. Malaria Coordinator, John Bridgeland, Vice Chairman of Malaria No More, and Mark Grabowsky, Malaria Program Manager of The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. - Benin Conducts Anti-Malaria Bed Net Campaign to Save Children's Lives - 10/22/07
Rear Adm. Tim Ziemer, U.S. Malaria Coordinator, attended one of the largest anti-malaria bed net campaigns that Benin has ever organized. More than 1.6 million long lasting insecticide-treated bed nets with the potential to protect 90 percent of Benin's children have been given out nationwide.
- Government of Madagascar and Coalition of Global Partners Launch Measles and Malaria Prevention Campaign - 10/22/07
In collaboration with PMI and other international partners, the government of Madagascar is launching a national health campaign to distribute more than 1.5 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets.

The Seattle Times published an op-ed written by Rear Adm. Tim Ziemer, U.S. Malaria Coordinator, and Michel Kazatchkine, Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The article focuses on a new report by UNICEF that offers a ray of hope in the progress being made in the fight against malaria in Sub-Saharan Africa. Articles in Voice of America and Reuters also discuss the UNICEF report, with quotes from Rear Adm. Ziemer explaining a three-part plan to roll back malaria and reporting on the impact of mosquito net distribution in Zanzibar.
