International Animal Export Regulations

If you have any questions or concerns regarding these regulations for exporting animals or animal products to a foreign country, you should contact the APHIS-VS Area Office in the State from which the animals or products will be exported.


Korea - Summary of Requirements

The following protocols for exporting animals to Korea are available through the International Regulations Retrieval System (IRRS).

Note: The export of poultry and pet birds from New York State is currently prohibited effective 06-10-05 due to the finding of H7N2 (low pathogenicity notifiable avian influenza - LPNAI) in ducks in New York.

  • Equine - Import health requirement - February 2008 (pdf 40kb)

Note: Korea will only accept horses from States that have been free from vesicular stomatitis for the last two years.

Sheep and Goats - July 1997 (pdf 8kb)

Swine - September 2005 (pdf 15kb)

Deer - January 2001 (pdf 36kb)

Ratites - June 1999 (pdf 7kb)

Ratites (Day-old chicks & Hatching eggs) - May 1999 (pdf 6kb)

For species not listed, the requirements are not known. However, exporters wanting to ship livestock or germplasm whose requirements are not listed in the IRRS, should have the interested party (importer/buyer) in the country of destination apply for an Import Permit at the appropriate ministry. This Import Permit will most likely outline the specific requirements.
