If you have any questions or concerns regarding these regulations for exporting animals or animal products to a foreign country, you should contact the APHIS-VS Area Office in the State from which the animals or products will be exported. Denmark - Summary of Requirements The following protocols for exporting animals to Denmark are available through the International Regulations Retrieval System (IRRS). SPECIES - MOST RECENT UPDATE Cattle
Horses
Poultry
Porcine semen - May 2004 (pdf 422kb) Canine semen - Certificate (bilingual English-Danish) June 2008 (pdf 366kb) Pet Dogs, Cats and Ferrets - (bilingual European Community health certificate) - March 2005 (pdf 207kb) Dogs, Cats, Ferrets (Trade, Commercial importation) - August 2004 (pdf 103kb) Note: It is preferred that all health certificates consist of one page. In the case of a multiple page certificate, the certificate number needs to be clearly marked in the top right hand corner of each page and sealed. The health certificate must be signed in a color different from the text. This holds true for both the USDA accredited veterinarian's signature and the endorsing federal veterinarian's signature. Cattle The importation of cattle from the United States to Denmark is prohibited due to the presence of bluetongue in the United States. Explanatory Notes for Bovine Embryo Collection from EC Council Directive - September 1989 (pdf 56kb) Mink - Protocol - November 2006 (pdf 41kb) Sheep and Goats The importation of sheep from the United States to Denmark is prohibited due to the presence of bluetongue in the United States. The importation of goats from the United States to Denmark is prohibited due to the presence of bluetongue in the United States. Pets For pets other than dogs and cats, Import Permits from the Danish Consulate are required. There is a total ban on monkeys. Application for permission to import psittaceous birds, rabbits, etc., must state the Danish address to which the animals are imported, as the Danish address of psittaceous birds must have been approved for private quarantine prior to importation. There are no veterinary restrictions on importation of tropical birds (exclusive of psittaceous birds), aquarium fish, tortoises, snakes, hamsters, and guinea pigs, but attention should be drawn to the fact that the provisions governing endangered wild animals cover several exotic animals. It is recommended that well before departure time, provisions be made with the competent authorities at the following address: The National Forrest and Nature Agency, Haraldsgade 53, DK-2100 Copenhagen Ø, DENMARK, Telephone: +45 39 47 20 00, FAX: +45 39 27 98 99. In the case of doubt, please consult: For species not listed, the requirements are not known. However, exporters wanting to ship livestock or germplasm whose requirements are not listed in the IRRS, should have the interested party (importer/buyer) in the country of destination apply for an Import Permit at the appropriate ministry. This Import Permit will most likely outline the specific requirements. Other Information Denmark is a member State of the European Community (EC).
