SUPPLEMENTARY MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY (SMOS) PROGRAM
SELECTION BOARD.
2. CMC (MMOA) HELD THE SMOS BOARD ON 13 SEP 02. THE OFFICERS
SELECTED FOR THE SMOS PROGRAM ARE SHOWN BELOW.

3. EACH OFFICER SELECTED WILL RECEIVE TRAINING AND A TOUR IN THEIR
RESPECTIVE SMOS VICE SERVING IN A B-BILLET. IN MANY INSTANCES, THESE
OFFICERS WILL BE ABLE TO SPEND ADDITIONAL TIME IN THE OPERATING
FORCES, THUS CONTINUING THEIR CAREER PROGRESSION AS A MAGTF OFFICER.
UPON COMPLETION OF THE SMOS TOUR, THESE OFFICERS WILL COMPETE WITH
THEIR PEERS TO ATTEND CAREER LEVEL SCHOOL OR RETURN TO THE OPERATING
FORCES IN THEIR PRIMARY MOS.
4. OFFICERS SELECTED FOR THE SMOS PROGRAM ARE REQUIRED TO CONTACT
THEIR PRIMARY MOS AND SMOS MONITORS BY E-MAIL OR TELEPHONE FOR
INFORMATION REGARDING SCHOOL DATES AND ASSIGNMENT OPPORTUNITIES.
THIS IS A CRITICAL FUNCTION THAT SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY 15 OCT 02.

6. OFFICERS IN OVER MOS'S WHO MEET STATED ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
WILL CONTINUE TO BE AFFORDED OPPORTUNITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SMOS
PROGRAM. THE NEXT SMOS BOARD IS SCHEDULED TO BE HELD DURING
THE SUMMER OF 2003, AND WILL BE ANNOUNCED VIA MARADMIN. WE ENCOURAGE
THOSE OFFICERS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THE SMOS PROGRAM TO CALL THEIR
MONITOR WITH SPECIFIC QUESTIONS.
7. THE SMOS PROGRAM BENEFITS BOTH THE INDIVIDUAL AND THE MARINE
CORPS BY SELECTING QUALITY OFFICERS TO SERVE IN SHORT MOS'S WHILE
OFFERING CAREER INCENTIVES. THE CONTINUED SUCCESS OF THIS PROGRAM
IS DEPENDENT UPON STRONG PARTICIPATION BY THE OPERATING FORCES.
COMMANDERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SOLICIT VOLUNTEERS FOR THIS IMPORTANT
PROGRAM.
