RMKS/ 1. PURPOSE. TO PROVIDE PROGRAM AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION
FOR THE DOD QOL TECHNOLOGY SYMPOSIUM 23-25 FEB 2000 IN SEATTLE,
WASHINGTON.
2. BACKGROUND. THE DOD QOL SYMPOSIUM PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR
QOL LEADERS, MANAGERS, AND VISIONARIES TO DISCUSS WAYS TO IMPROVE
QUALITY OF LIFE WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE. AS IN PAST YEARS,
THE SYMPOSIUM CONTINUES TO LOOK TO THE FUTURE AND BENCHMARK AGAINST
THE PRIVATE SECTOR TO ENSURE MILITARY COMMUNITY QUALITY OF LIFE
KEEPS PACE WITH AMERICAN SOCIETY AT LARGE.
3. ATTENDANCE IS OPEN TO DOD BASE COMMANDERS, INSTALLATION
MANAGERS, AND ALL OTHER QOL SERVICE PROVIDERS AT ALL LEVELS.

4. OBJECTIVES.
A. IMPROVE THE AWARENESS OF AND ACCESSIBILITY TO QUALITY OF LIFE SERVICES WITHIN DOD.
B. PROMOTE THE NETWORKING AND EXCHANGE OF IDEAS ON DOD QOL
TECHNOLOGIES.
C. SHOWCASE DOD AND THE GOVERNMENT/NON-PROFIT/COMMERCIAL BEST
PRACTICE IN QOL SERVICE DELIVERY.
D. PROMOTE QOL MANAGEMENT REFORMS THAT EMPHASIZE TECHNOLOGY TO
ENHANCE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION.
E. IMPROVE PRODUCTIVITY IN SERVICE DELIVERY OF QOL PROGRAMS.
F. DEVELOP A STRATEGIC PLAN TO CONNECT SERVICE MEMBERS AND
FAMILIES TO QOL SERVICES IN THE MILITARY COMMUNITY.
5. SYMPOSIUM FORMAT. FORMAT IS DESIGNED TO BE INTERACTIVE AND WILL
SHOWCASE NEW TECHNOLOGIES. PROGRAM ELEMENTS INCLUDE:
POLLING/SURVEYS, MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS, FAMILY PROGRAMS,
PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT, RECRUITING, MARKETING/DEMOGRAPHICS, WELLNESS
AND HEALTH CARE, MEDIA SERVICES (RADIO/TV/PRINT), HOUSING REFERRAL,
RECREATION, EDUCATION/TRAINING AND E-COMMERCE INITIATIVES FROM
ACROSS DOD, OTHER GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, AND THE PRIVATE SECTOR. THREE
GENERAL SESSION SPEAKERS WILL PRESENT THEIR VISIONS FOR FUTURE ROLE
OF TECHNOLOGY IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVING PERSONAL
WELL-BEING.
6. THERE IS DISPLAY SPACE FOR DOD AND OTHER GOVERNMENT AND
PRIVATE-SECTOR EXHIBITORS. THERE WILL BE OPPORTUNITIES FOR AUDIENCE
MEMBERS TO VIEW THE DISPLAYS AT THE SYMPOSIUM.
8. DEVELOPMENT OF THE STRATEGIC PLAN BEGINS DURING THE SYMPOSIUM
WITH SURVEY FORMS FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS TO COMPLETE. ADDITIONALLY,
THE MODERATORS IN EACH OF THE BREAKOUT SESSIONS WILL NOTE KEY ISSUES
RAISED BY THE ATTENDEES AND RAISE THE ISSUES IN THE STRATEGIC
PLANNING SESSION PLANNED SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, 26 FEB. ATTENDANCE
