  COAST MEDIA TRAINING SYMPOSIUM.

  3.  LOCATION:  TORRANCE/SOUTH BAY HILTON, 21333 HAWTHORNE BLVD,
  TORRANCE CA.
  4.  SPONSOR:  DIVISION OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS, HQMC, LOS ANGELES BRANCH.
  5.  PURPOSE OF SYMPOSIUM: TO PROVIDE CRITICAL PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND
  MEDIA INTERVIEW TRAINING TO COMMANDERS, COMMAND SELECTS, CHIEFS OF
  STAFF, STAFF OFFICERS, SENIOR STAFF NONCOMMISSIONED OFFICERS AND
  OTHERS WHOSE DUTIES DEMAND EXPERT MEDIA COMMUNICATION SKILLS.  THIS
  TRAINING IS PARTICULARLY BENEFICIAL TO MEU COMMANDERS AND THEIR
  STAFF AND SENIOR MARINES ON INDEPENDENT, I&I, RECRUITING AND
  RESERVE DUTY ASSIGNMENTS, WHO MAY BE SPOKESPERSONS FOR THE MARINE
  CORPS.
  6.  PUBLIC AFFAIRS REPRESENTATIVES:  PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICERS AND
  PUBLIC AFFAIRS CHIEFS OF THE ATTENDEES' PARENT COMMANDS ARE    ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.  THESE REPRESENTATIVES WILL WORK WITH THEIR
  COMMANDERS/ATTENDEES TO PREPARE FOR INTERVIEWS AND DEVELOP COMMAND
  MESSAGES.  THIS IS DESIGNED TO STRENGTHEN THE RELATIONSHIP OF
  THE COMMANDER/ATTENDEE WITH HIS OR HER PAO/PAC.  IT ALSO SHOWS THE
  ATTENDEE FIRST-HAND WHAT THE PA REPRESENTATIVE'S ROLE IS IN CRISIS
  COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA RELATIONS.   ADDITIONALLY, THE COURSE WILL
  PROVIDE THE PA REPS AN OPPORTUNITY TO INTERACT WITH OUTSIDE CRISIS
  COMMUNICATION AGENCIES.
  7.  REQUEST MAXIMUM SUPPORT FOR THIS SYMPOSIUM.  IT REPRESENTS A
  SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT THAT WILL PAY DIVIDENDS TO ATTENDEES AND THE
  MARINE CORPS OVER THE LONG TERM.  COMMANDS SHOULD MAKE EVERY EFFORT
  TO FILL ASSIGNED QUOTAS AND ARE ENCOURAGED TO REQUEST MORE IF
  NEEDED.

  10.  ADMINISTRATIVE INSTRUCTIONS:

  00.
        B.  ATTENDEES REPORT TO LA PAO DUTY OFFICER AT TORRANCE/SOUTH
  BAY HILTON NLT 1700 SUN, 30 APR 00 FOR REGISTRATION. A HOSTED
  RECEPTION WILL BE HELD AT THE HILTON STARTING AT 1800, DURING WHICH
  THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS WILL ADDRESS THE ATTENDEES.
  ATTENDANCE AT THE RECEPTION IS MANDATORY .
        C.  BILLETING:
  (1)  THE SYMPOSIUM HOTEL IS THE TORRANCE/SOUTH BAY HILTON, TORRANCE,

  (2)  SYMPOSIUM ROOM RATE IS $99 PLUS TAX; FREE PARKING.
  (3)  ATTENDEES ARE REQUIRED TO CALL THE HOTEL DIRECTLY FOR
  RESERVATIONS.  RESERVATION CUTOFF DATE IS MON, 03 APR 00.  NEITHER
  THE HOTEL NOR THE SYMPOSIUM SPONSORS WILL GUARANTEE ROOM
  AVAILABILITY OR RATE FOR ATTENDEES WHOSE NAMES ARE SUBMITTED AFTER
  THE CUTOFF DATE OF 03 APR 00.
        D.  TRANSPORTATION:  COMMERCIAL SHUTTLE SERVICE IS AVAILABLE
     FROM THE AIRPORT AT THE APPROXIMATE RATE OF $12 PER PERSON.  THE
  TAXICAB RATE IS APPROXIMATELY $22 FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL.  A
  PORTION OF THE COURSE WILL REQUIRE INDEPENDENT TRANSPORTATION;
  THEREFORE, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT ATTENDEES FROM THE SAME COMMAND/
  GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION COORDINATE RENTAL CAR OR POV TRANSPORTATION.
        E.  UNIFORM:  SUMMER SERVICE "C" AND CIVILIAN INFORMAL.
        F.  FISCAL:
             (1)  DISBURSING AND TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE IS NOT
  READILY AVAILABLE AT THE SYMPOSIUM SITE.  IF NECESSARY, ATTENDEES
  SHOULD DRAW ADVANCE PER DIEM.
             (2)  A CONFERENCE FEE OF $25 (CASH ONLY) WILL BE COLLECTED
   FROM EACH ATTENDEE DURING REGISTRATION, SUN, 30 APR 00.  IN ORDER
  FOR THE CONFERENCE FEE TO BE REIMBURSED IT MUST BE AUTHORIZED IN THE
  TAD ORDERS.
             (3)  PARENT COMMANDS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FUNDING OF
