The DoDEA Information Center Program focuses on information literacy,
the ability to find, evaluate and use information, in order to
assist students to become life-long learners. The program combines
effective learning and teaching strategies and activities with
information access skills. DoDEA has adopted the American Association
of School Librarians (AASL) and the Association for Educational
Communications and Technology (AECT) guidelines, Information
Power: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs. The Information
Center Program gives students the opportunity to encounter information
in formats as simple as a picture book, as complex as a multimedia
package or an electronic study trip, and as diverse as a literary
classic, an eBook or a Web site on the Internet. The DoDEA learning
community (students, teachers, administrators and parents) is
interconnected in this ongoing effort to understand and meet constantly
changing information needs.
The Information Specialist promotes
this student-centered program by working collaboratively with
teachers, administrators, and others to facilitate student success
as citizens of the 21st century. |
