NRCS Area 2 Soil Scientist, Jeff Hellerich, recently conducted an in depth analysis
of the soils at the Sauk Valley Man prehistoric site in Todd County. Jeff was part of an investigatory team composed of
archeologists, tribal members, students, and the landowner. Goals of the two day inquiry included an effort to extract additional
information from the site regarding the context of the human remains found there, how the remains may have arrived at that location
(i.e. natural vs. cultural processes), and if there were other cultural deposits, features, or artifacts in the vicinity of the site
that might be related to or associated with the remains.
