Packaging Pilot Program

This 2001 policy memo in question was superceded by subsequent packaging policy published in the DoD 4140.1-R dated May 23, 2003. The policy in DoD 4140.1-R allows commercial packaging "when it is cost effective and will withstand anticipated logistics conditions". Many of our shipments made to our distribution depots use commercial packaging. However, certain conditions, like underway replenishment at sea, logistics conditions dictate a more stringent packaging than the traditional commercial packaging.
