USDA honors local leader in annual awards ceremony

Little Rock, AR, June 13, 2003 — Natural Resources Conservation Service Chief Bruce Knight today honored Kalven L. Trice, Arkansas state conservationist, for "Operating an Efficient, Effective and Discrimination-Free Organization" in the 57th annual U.S. Department of Agriculture Honor Awards Ceremony. These awards are the most prestigious honors bestowed by the Secretary of Agriculture.

The selection was for notable achievement in building and retaining a diverse workforce, while ensuring efficient and effective program delivery, and exceptional management of limited resources.

"The Honor Awards are a tribute to our employees for their commitment to doing the best job possible and serving local communities," Knight said. "The NRCS workforce is dedicated to conservation and excellence in public service."

Trice's achievements have resulted in a more diverse NRCS work force in Arkansas, an increase in public awareness of conservation programs and funding availability, and efficient management and use of limited resources and reimbursable projects.
