HHS WIDENS EMERGENCY RESPONSE BY PROVIDING SPECIAL
MESSAGING TO BROADCASTERS AND THE MEDIA


HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson announced today the release of three public service announcements (PSA) available to broadcasters, individual cable systems and other members of the media. These PSA videos address issues related to talking with children after a disaster, aid to New York seniors concerning Medicare and other senior services, and information for people having problems coping with last week's events.

"We are the department of compassion," Secretary Thompson said. "During this time of national healing it is important that Americans know that help is available. We are releasing these public service announcements to make sure these messages of how to get help are seen and heard by as many Americans as possible."

The National Cable & Telecommunications Association will distribute an HHS public service announcement addressing the issues related to talking with children after a disaster. This informative message can be viewed on Friday, September 21, from 12:00 p.m. until 12:30 p.m. EST on satellite coordinates Galaxy 11 Transponder (C-Band) 8.

The National Association of Broadcasters will distribute all three HHS public service announcements that specifically address:

Public service announcements carried by the National Association of Broadcasters can be obtained by calling 202-429-5448 and requesting coordinates for the Telejournal Satellite Feed that will take place on Friday, September 21, from 11:30 until 12:30 EST. In addition, copies of each PSA may also be obtained upon request by calling the same number listed above.
