The City of North Wildwood covers an area 1.8 square miles along the southern New Jersey Coast on land identified as "Five Mile Beach". It shares this "beach" with the City of Wildwood, the Boroughs of West Wildwood and Wildwood Crest, and a portion of Lower Township. The City is located in Cape May County, approximately 30 miles south of Atlantic City and ten miles north of Cape May City.

North Wildwood was incorporated in 1917 as a city from what had previously been known as Anglesea Borough and North Wildwood Borough.

North Wildwood has aMayor- council form of government. The voters elect a mayor and seven councilmembers.
The Mayor serves a four year term while six councilmembers are elected from wards for three year terms on a staggered basis and one at large councilmember is elected for a two year term. Under this form of government, the council functions as a legislative body: it must pass ordinances and approve the appointments of the Mayor. The mayor, as executive, is responsible for administrative functions and appointment of all officials.

SEAWALL UPDATE: Construction is currently underway for the final portion of the Seawall, which starts at approximately Baltimore Avenue and goes northward to its termination at Aqua Beach.

The contractor (Pierson Construction) has until September 2009 to complete this project, however, we are hopeful they will be able to finish in a shorter time frame. Reports received to date show the project is already slightly ahead of schedule.

This project is officially a United States Army Corp of Engineers project. Funding for this project comes from the Federal Government (65%), the State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Coastal Engineering (26%) and the City of North Wildwood (9%).

The purpose and importance of this project is the ultimate protection of property, both private and public. Thank you to all our residents for their patience and understanding during this comprehensive and important construction project.

North Wildwood Makes Improvements With Safe Route to School Grant

North Wildwood - July 28, 2008, the City of North Wildwood was awarded a Safe Route to School Grant. The grant will make walking to school safer in 2008. The city is planning on installing solar powered radar speed feedback signs, along with pedestrian flashers. These signs will be installed on Central Avenue. The addition of these signs will heighten motorist and pedestrian awareness thus improving student safety while walking to Margaret Mace School and the after-care program held at the North Wildwood Recreation Center. For additional information contact North Wildwood City Administrator Ray Townsend.
