Volunteer Opportunities

Here is a summary of current volunteer projects at Waco Lake.  For more information, please contact Volunteer Coordinator at 254-756-5359.                             
    

  1. General – Painting: Stencil water safety message on all boat ramp turnarounds (white and orange asphalt paint).  Landscaping: collect driftwood, cut, stack wood at campsites.  Shred Wildlife Mgmt Areas with tractor.  Repair and clean birdboxes.  Mark water cut-off valves in parks.  High school or older, ongoing time with several days’ work.

Also: place boundary marker signs along boundaries.

  1. Twin Bridges   - repair entrance planter (Supplies needed High school or older). Clip young tree restraints, remove t-posts.  Collect debris along shore. Fence pavilion,

 

  1. Airport Beach – Assist with handicap-access fish pond construction (supplies needed - rebar): Trench for electrical, place PVC in ground.  Lay 20x20’ concrete base for Pond bldg.

Airport Park - Cut (With Chainsaw Permit - High school or older) and remove dead trees by shoreline.  Trim entrance shrubs, create new water safety sign for entrance.

Reynolds Creek –Place and number campsite marker posts.  Replace timbers at sites.  Place Signs etc.  Remove inorganic trash from flood debris.  All ages appropriate, minimal supervision.

  1. Flatrock, 185 Bridge, Middle Bosque, Lacy Pt., Jonquil Rd. fenceline – remove trash from debris line behind pipe rail.  Collect stray guard posts.
  2. Midway – Repair split rail fence.  Paint BBQ cookers with heat resistant paint.  Trim, clean up fallen Pecan limbs, shoreline trash removal. 
  3. Bosque Park – clean up fallen Pecan limbs north of Airport Dr.
  4. Interpretive Dam/hike n bike signboards need new cork, new doors/locks.  Asphalt the cracks in middle hike n’ bike trail.  1-2 people working independently to find supplies, install.

 

  1. Lacy Pt – contact Waco Bike Club or TETRA to assist with trail creation (Rusty Hansgen – 715-0977).
  1. Borrow Pit Archeology Site –shovel and brace short trail (pending Scout project).  1-3 days work. Extend steps down to base.  Add 1-2 viewing platforms. 1-2 high school or older people working independently to find supplies, more people to install, do trail work.
