Potential Funding Sources for Abstinence Education Programs

The following foundations have either funded abstinence education programs in the past or have expressed a willingness to consider abstinence education grant proposals in the future. NCFY continues to research potential funding sources and plans to update the list periodically.

Grant recipients address community needs in the areas of human services, education and literacy, social justice/ethics, cultural enrichment, and the arts. Funds projects that cultivate a renewed and healthy sense of citizenship, including those that emphasize developing morality and personal character. Funded programs must aim to improve the life of the community. Grantees have included abstinence education providers. Of particular interest are State and community-based programs. Grant seekers must submit a brief letter of inquiry and may then be invited to submit a full proposal.

Within these areas, has funded pregnancy prevention programs in the State of Colorado. Will only consider funding abstinence education programs that can demonstrate, with evaluation results, a history of success in preventing teenage pregnancy. Currently funds comprehensive reproductive health services; would consider funding abstinence education programs. Will fund a variety of needs, including general/operating support, campaigns, building/renovation, and capital campaigns. Application form is not required.

Does not provide funding for grants that total more than 25 percent of an organization's budget or support core operating expenses. Does not fund organizations that have operated for less than 1 year. Grant seekers must submit a letter of proposal as instructed on the foundation's Web site; the foundation will then extend invitations for formal grant applications.

Funds programs contributing to the health of children and families within a 125-mile radius of Fargo-Moorhead, North Dakota.  Does not fund administrative overhead, indirect fees, or operating expenses not associated with new or expanded services.  An eligibility questionnaire may be completed on the foundation’s Web site; instructions for submitting a letter of intent are provided if an organization is deemed eligible.

Provides four types of funding: project support for one-time activities; program support for ongoing activities; operating support for child- and family-serving agencies; and capital support. Deadline: Program grant proposals are reviewed in February, May, and November; formal applications may be submitted upon invitation by the foundation. Grant proposals for organizational development and support may be submitted at any time.
