Before you begin...

Gather the information you'll need to complete our easy, online application. By the way, you should take a look at our privacy and legal notices. For requirements to act as an entity account manager see Learn more about Entity Accounts.

Step 1

Choose the type of account you would like to open. Only U.S. individuals and U.S. entities can open TreasuryDirect accounts. We accept the following entity account types: a corporation, a deceased or living estate, a trust, a limited liability company (LLC), a partnership, a professional limited liability company (PLLC), or a sole proprietorship. We do not currently permit any additional type of entities.

Step 2

Tell us about yourself (and the entity if applying for an entity account) and then wait just a few seconds while we verify your information online.

Step 3

Choose a password, password reminder, and additional security questions and we'll send you an e-mail with your account number. We will also send you an Access Card in the mail within the next two weeks. Your account number, password, and Access Card are needed to log into your TreasuryDirect account.

That's all it takes to begin doing business directly with the U.S. Treasury!
