Interlibrary Loan Services
|
For materials not available in the Medical Library, we provide access to
the holdings of other libraries through the DOCLINE and OCLC interlibrary
loan systems. To submit a request, fill out a form (available in the Medical
Library and on the Intranet) and submit it to us. If you use PubMed to search
MEDLINE, you may take advantage of Loansome Doc, a PubMed feature that allows
you to select citations in a PubMed list and send requests for them directly
to the library. For details, call us at:

To Request New Journal Subscriptions
- New journal requests may be sent electronically or by paper to the Medical Library. If sent electronically please use Outlook and e-mail to Library Director. If sending by memoranda, please address to Chief, WRAMC Medical Library, and ATTN: Library Director
- Service or department chiefs must approve all new journal request memoranda to the Library
- All new journal request e-mail or memoranda must list at least 2 or more people who will be using the new journal.
- Please include as much information about the new title(s) as possible (especially the publisher and price), and include a brief statement justifying the new subscription.
- After the memorandum is received in the Medical Library, the requestor will be informed of the following if applicable:
- Availability of title in AFIP medical library, and/or availability of related titles in the WRAMC medical library, to ensure that these factors were considered in making the subscription request
- Date of the Medical Library Committee meeting that the request will be reviewed at, so that the requestor can ensure that a representative from his/her service attends the meeting to answer questions about the request
- The Medical Library Committee (MLC) is the approving authority for new journal requests. The MLC meets on the last Tuesday of January, April, July and October in the Eisenhower Suite in Building 1. New journal requests must be received by the Library NLT 5 working days prior to the MLC meeting.
- The MLC weighs the following factors when considering approval of new journal requests:
- Appropriateness of the journal title for the medical collection
- Number of interlibrary loan requests for articles from the journal
- Availability of same title at AFIP medical library or electronically
- Presence of related titles in the WRAMC Medical Library
- Subscription cost
- Presence of requestor or representative at the MLC meeting
- If approved, the new journal is subscribed to for a minimum of two years. At the end of that time period, the journal is evaluated to see if patron usage warrants retention of the title in the collection. Usage statistics are based on the number of times a journal is re-shelved by the library staff during the year. Please do not re-shelve journals (or books) in the library, by doing so you decrease the usage statistics for these items
