{7}Extra Help/LIS Outreach Toolkit  The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the publication of an Extra Help/LIS Outreach Toolkit.  The toolkit details our outreach and education initiatives to increase enrollment in the low-income subsidy (LIS) and includes new county-level estimates of LIS eligible beneficiaries that have not yet applied for the extra help."  The Toolkit includes a multitude of tip sheets, fact sheets, letters and other publications from both CMS and SSA that can help spread the word.  We look forward to working with you, our state & local government partners, to reach people with Medicare who need information about the extra help.

{6}State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIPs)  This webpage provides helpful contacts by state for the SHIPs.  SHIPs can help beneficiaries and their caregivers answer questions about the new Medicare prescription drug coverage.

BENEFITSCHECKUPRX

CMS is working with our sister agency, the Administration on Aging (AoA), to support the development of a web-based tool to help people with Medicare and other older adults to learn about and enroll in needs-based government programs, including the Medicare Savings Program, and extra help from Medicare pay for their prescription drug costs.  AoA has a contract with NCOA to build out the {4}BenefitsCheckUpRx to include the Medicare Savings Programs and other valuable federal, state, and private programs that can save you money on health care and prescription drugs.  By answering a few questions, you can learn about and enroll in programs that will save you money.  BenefitsCheckUpRx is completely confidential.  It does not require the applicant to enter their name, address, phone number, or Social Security number.  To access BenefitsCheckUpRx please scroll down to the links at the bottom of the page.

MEDICARE SAVINGS PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIRMENTS BETWEEN STATES

People who are eligible under Medicaid for a Medicare Savings Program (MSP) will automatically receive the extra help with their prescription drug costs.  States have flexibility in deciding what rules to use when determining eligibility for their MSPs, which means that the MSP eligibility requirements can vary considerably from state to state.  To help clarify the differences among states' eligibility criteria, we have prepared a {3}MSP Eligibility Criteria Chart, which can be downloaded below, that shows how those criteria differ from state to state.  We have also included an explanation of what the differences in MSP eligibility criteria mean, and how they might relate to determining eligibility for extra help with prescription drug costs.
