Raleigh, NC -- The hours for disaster-related assistance services are changing, recovery officials announced today.

The hours for all DRCs remain 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

These include the DRCs in Ahoskie, Bayboro, Beaufort, Edenton, Elizabeth City, Hertford, Kill Devil Hills, Roper, Swan Quarter, Washington and Windsor.

"The people in the declared counties who suffered losses in the hurricane won't have a holiday from their problems, so we won't be taking one either," said Gracia Szczech of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the official in charge of federal recovery operations.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
