PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on a draft regional general permit that would authorize the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to conduct certain aquatic habitat restoration activities within the state of Oregon.
These restoration activities will maintain, enhance or restore watershed functions to benefit fish and other aquatic organisms, water quality, riparian areas, floodplains and wetlands.
Regional general permits help streamline the approval process for recurring activities that have only minor individual and cumulative negative impacts on the environment.
The Corps is soliciting comments on this proposal from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. The public notice (NWP-2007-999) with details of the proposal is available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp. Comments must be received by Jan. 15.
The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
