PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Oregon Department of State Lands have extended the comment period on a proposed Department of the Army regional general permit and a proposed DSL general permit that would authorize gravel mining in the Chetco River in Curry County, Ore.
The Corps and DSL will accept public comments until two weeks after the U.S Geological Survey presents the preliminary findings of the sediment transport studies it is currently conducting in the proposed permit area.
The agencies anticipate presenting those findings in March 2009.
The Corps and DSL encourage interested citizens to provide preliminary comments between now and March that will assist in evaluating and refining the proposal. The public notice (NWP-2008-71) describing the proposal in detail was issued Nov. 26 and is available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.
Background information, meeting notes, documents, news and other information about the development of the proposal are available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/chetco_background.asp.
