PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on an application for a permit to conduct work in waters of the United States. The public notice regarding this permit application was issued during the week of Dec. 7, 2008.
Public Notice NWP-2008-693 describes a proposal by CMP Properties Inc. to discharge fill into up to 0.9 acre of wetlands and about 2,400 linear feet of a drainage channel between Oak Grove Road and Clover Lane south of Jacksonville Highway in Medford, Ore., in order to build residential housing and associated infrastructure.
The applicant proposes improving 4,938 square feet of a channelized segment of Gore Creek and creating adjacent wetlands to compensate for 0.7 acre of the project’s impacts, and using the Oregon Department of State Lands’ in-lieu fee program to compensate for the remaining 0.2 acre of impacts.
The Corps is soliciting comments on this proposal from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. The public notice which provides more information is available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp. Comments must be received by Jan. 6.
The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
