Corps seeks comments on Corvallis permit application

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on an application for a permit to conduct work in waters of the United States. The public notice regarding this permit application was issued during the week of Oct. 26, 2008.

Public Notice NWP-2000-3/1 describes a proposal by the City of Corvallis, Ore., to fill 1.65 acres of wet prairie south of Northeast Conser Drive along Jasper Street and Northeast Sorrel Place in Corvallis to facilitate construction of a housing development.

The city proposes to restore 1.75 acres of wet prairie on a separate site as mitigation for the impacts of the project. Comments must be received by Nov. 27.

The Corps is soliciting comments on this proposal from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. The public notice which provides more information is available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
