Corps seeks comments on Creswell, Newport permit applications

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on two applications for permits to conduct work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding these permit applications were issued during the weeks of Oct. 5 and 12, 2008.

Public Notice NWP-2008-576 describes a proposal by Income Property Management Co. to fill up to 1.13 acres of wetlands east of Highway 99 and north of Art Lott Lane in Creswell, Ore., in order to build a storage facility. Comments must be received by Nov. 8.

Public Notice NWP-2007-832 describes a proposal by the Port of Newport, Ore., to fill about 1.76 acres of deep water estuary and dredge about 11,100 cubic yards of material in Yaquina Bay in order to stabilize the International Terminal bulkhead and facilitate its access by large vessels. Comments must be received by Nov. 13.

The Corps is soliciting comments on these proposals from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. The public notices which provide more information are available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
