Road over Foster Dam to close for three months

Intermittent closures begin this week

PORTLAND, Ore. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close the road over Foster Dam beginning the week of Nov. 3 through mid-January 2009 for work on one of the dam’s spillway gates.

Closure of Foster Dam Road will prevent access to North River Road from Highway 20 at this location. Alternate access to North River Road is available from Highway 20 at Pleasant Valley Road and Quartzville Road.

The Corps will position heavy equipment on the roadway to repair Gate 1 (northern most gate) on the dam. There may be additional partial-day road closures between now and

Nov. 3 to move equipment into the area. This requires road closure for all vehicles and pedestrians.

For additional information about the Foster Dam gate repair project and upcoming community meetings, visit https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/v/foster_status.asp.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates 13 dam and reservoir projects in the Willamette River basin. Each dam contributes to a water resource plan designed to provide flood damage reduction, power generation, irrigation, water quality improvement, fish and wildlife habitat, recreation and navigation on the Willamette River and many of its tributaries.
