Corps reviews permit applications for Multnomah, Polk, and Lane counties

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing three permit applications requesting a Department of the Army permit for certain work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding the permit applications listed here were issued during the week of Oct. 12.

Public Notice NWP-2006-0001, requested by Morse Bros., Inc., is for a project located on the Columbia River at River Mile 120.5 near 5700 NE Sundial Road in Troutdale, Multnomah County, Ore. The proposed project is to dredge up to 200,000 cubic yards of sand and gravel annually for five years for commercial use, such as sand for ready-mix concrete and other sand-based products. Comments must be received by Nov. 17.

Public Notice NWP-2008-614, requested by Copper Creek Vineyards, is located 7855 Zumwalt Road in Monmouth, Polk County, Ore. The proposed project involves constructing an earthen dam to create a reservoir to provide water for vineyards and other crops in the area. The proposed dam and reservoir would result in the placement of fill in an intermittent stream and abutting wetland. Comments must be received by Nov. 14.

Public Notice NWP-2007-1026, requested by Royal Meadows, LLC, is located on the north side of Royal Avenue, immediately east of Amazon Creek in west Eugene, Lane County, Ore. The proposed action involves discharging fill into 12.6 acres of wetlands abutting Amazon Creek o construct a low- to medium-density, mixed-use development, Royal Meadows. Comments must be received by Nov. 13.

The Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments from the public, federal, state and local agencies, Indian Tribes and other interested parties on these permit requests. The Corps will issue or deny any permit under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or under Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
