Corps seeks comments on Lebanon, Monroe permit applications

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on two applications for permits to conduct work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding these permit applications were issued during the week of Sept. 7, 2008.

Public Notice NWP-2008-439 describes a proposal by the City of Lebanon, Ore., to grade and fill up to 0.86 acre of wetlands abutting Burkhart Creek in order to develop an industrial facility. The city proposes to purchase 0.86 acre-credits from the One Horse Slough Mitigation Bank to compensate for the impacts of the project.

Comments must be received by Oct. 9.

Public Notice NWP-2007-149/1 describes a proposal by the City of Monroe, Ore., to fill 0.77 acre of wetlands abutting tributaries of the Long Tom River in order to expand and improve the city’s wastewater treatment facility. The city proposes to purchase 0.77 acre-credits from the Muddy Creek Mitigation Bank to compensate for the impacts of the project.

Comments must be received by Oct. 8.

The Corps is soliciting comments on these proposals from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. The public notices which provide more information are available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
