PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on an application for a permit to conduct work in waters of the United States. The public notice regarding this permit application was issued during the week of June 22, 2008.
Public Notice NWP-2001-821 describes a proposal by Sundial Marine Construction and Repair to dredge 31,600 cubic yards cubic yards of material and stabilize 195 linear feet of stream bank along the south shore of the Columbia River at river mile 119.7 near Troutdale, Ore.
The purpose of the project is to enhance fish and wildlife habitat by creating a shallow tidal marsh habitat.
The Corps is soliciting comments on this proposal from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. The public notice which provides more information is available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp. Comments must be received by July 28.
The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
