Corps seeks comments on Eugene, Florence permit applications

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on two applications for permits to conduct work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding these permit applications were issued during the week of March 30, 2008.

Public Notice NWP-1998-882 describes a proposal by The Picullel Group to fill 0.4 acre and excavate 0.21 acre of wetland on the east side of Hawkins Lane north of Randy Lane in Eugene, Ore., in order to build a residential development.

Public Notice NWP-2007-379 describes a proposal to place fill in up to 0.2 acre below the high tide line and build a gangway, access ramp and floating dock along and in the Siuslaw River in order to develop a residential lot at 8340 Highway 126 near Florence, Ore.

The Corps is soliciting comments on these proposals from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. The public notices which provide more information are available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp. Comments must be received by May 1.

The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
