Corps seeks comments on Corvallis permit application

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on an application for a permit to conduct work in waters of the United States. The public notice regarding this permit application was issued during the week of Feb. 24, 2008.

Public Notice NWP-1992-872 describes a proposal by Benton County Public Works and a private property owner to realign a section of Southwest Reservoir Avenue and construct an industrial park on 86 acres in Corvallis, Ore.

The proposed project would impact 2.33 acres of wetlands and 1.3 acres of U.S. waters. As mitigation for these impacts, the applicants propose to create 6.14 acres of new wetlands, enhance 19.66 acres of existing wetlands, and restore .85 acre of former wetlands and the Dunawai Creek stream channel.

The Corps is soliciting comments on this proposal from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. Comments must be received by March 31. The public notice which provides more information is available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

The Corps issues or denies permits under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
