PORTLAND, Ore. – The interpretive staff at Bonneville Lock and Dam invite the public to attend special programs in honor of Veterans Day on Sunday, Nov. 11.
Come to the Bradford Island Visitor Center to hear stories about World War II and the historic events that helped shape the world as we know it today. Programs are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 11.
Learn about Oregon's involvement in the war through stories about the 41st Infantry Division, the 104th Infantry Division, Camp Adair and the Oregon bombings. Try on an authentic World War II uniform jacket and hat, feel a wool blanket used by the soldiers, play with a "clicker" communication device, and other genuine and replica World War II items.
These special programs are offered through the Heritage Outreach Project of the Oregon National Guard.
Visitors can also learn about Bonneville Lock and Dam and its important electrical contribution to the war effort during that time.
Bonneville Lock and Dam is located at Exit 40 off Highway 84. Please also take time to visit the navigation lock, which is open daily from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and the Bonneville Fish Hatchery.
