PORTLAND, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is proposing a wetlands restoration project in the Springwater Corridor of the Johnson Creek watershed, according to a public notice issued by the Corps on February 16.
The proposed project would protect and restore about 40 acres of wetlands and riparian areas within the Johnson Creek watershed in southeast Portland. The project would also improve habitat for a wide variety of wildlife species.
This Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration project is authorized under Section 206 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1996. The City of Portland and the Bureau of Environmental Services are the non-federal sponsors of this project.
A state water quality certificate, pursuant to Section 401 of the Clean Water Act, is being requested from the State of Oregon, Department of Environmental Quality.
