Corps reviews permit applications from Medford, Douglas Co., and Lakeview, Ore.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing three applications requesting a Department of the Army permit for certain work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding the permit applications listed here were issued during the weeks of Sept. 11, 2006.

Public Notice 200600594, requested by Lithia Real Estate. The project is located west of Highway 62, north of Coker Butte Road and east of Medco Haul Road in Medford, Ore. The applicant proposes to fill 2.46 acres of wetland and 0.14 acre of drainages in order to construct an autoplex. Comments must be received by Oct. 10, 2006. Public Notice 20600534, requested by Northwest Pipeline Corp. The project includes two locations in Douglas County, Ore. The applicant proposes protecting a gas pipeline at two stream crossings by encasing the line in concrete. Comments must be received by Oct. 10, 2006. Public Notice 200600101. Project is located in wetlands adjacent to Drews Creek near Lakeview, Ore. The proposed project would impact 1.1 acres of wetlands and waters to create 7,000 linear feet of new stream channel in order to improve natural stream flows and provide fish passage around a water diversion structure. Comments must be received by Oct. 13, 2006. A copy of the public notice may be found at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

The Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments from the public, federal, state and local agencies, Indian Tribes and other interested parties on these permit requests.

The Corps of Engineers will issue or deny any permit under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or under Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.

If the applicants have submitted a mitigation plan with the permit request, it will be considered. If a permit is issued, the Corps will decide on the appropriate and practicable compensatory mitigation for each proposed project.
