Corps reviews permit applications for Creswell, Veneta, Grants Pass and Klamath Falls, Ore.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing four applications requesting a Department of the Army permit for certain work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding the permit applications listed here were issued during the week of July 10, 2006.

Public Notice 200600332, requested by Sierra Development. The project is located west of Creswell High School in Creswell, Ore. The applicant proposes to discharge fill into 2.69 acres of wetland pasture in order to construct a 10.2-acre residential subdivision. Comments must be received by Aug. 10, 2006. Public Notice 200500430, requested by Hayden Homes, Inc. The project is located near Bolton Hill Road in Veneta, Ore. The applicant proposes to discharge fill into 0.56 acre of wetland and drainages in order to construct a 120-acre mixed-use residential community within the Urban Growth Boundary of Veneta. Comments must be received by Aug. 10, 2006. A copy of the public notice may be found at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

Public Notice 200400398, requested by Jackson Estates. Project is located south of Redwood Avenue in Grants Pass, Ore. The proposed project would place fill into 0.74 acres of wetland in order to construction a 9.79-acre housing development, including sidewalks, utility lines and access roads. Comments must be received by Aug. 10, 2006. A copy of the public notice may be found at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

Public Notice 199500822, requested by the Running Y Resort. Project is located north of Highway 140 near the Caledonia Marsh near Klamath Falls, Ore. The applicant proposes constructing a water feature measuring about 900 feet long, 30 feet wide and 9 feet deep at its deepest point. A total of 40,000 cubic yards of material would be placed in uplands. Comments must be received by Aug. 12, 2006. The Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments from the public, federal, state and local agencies, Indian Tribes and other interested parties on these permit requests.

The Corps of Engineers will issue or deny any permit under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or under Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.

If the applicants have submitted a mitigation plan with the permit request, it will be considered. If a permit is issued, the Corps will decide on the appropriate and practicable compensatory mitigation for each proposed project.
