Corps announces proposed Camas Swale Creek mitigation bank

PORTLAND, Ore—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Oregon Department of State Lands are considering a proposal to establish a wetland mitigation bank in the coas fork Willamette River watershed in Lane Co., Ore.

The bank sponsors propose this mitigation bank as a means to meet the requirements for compensatory wetland mitigation for as-yet unknown wetland losses associated with future projects under the authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and by Oregon’s Removal-fill Law.

The bank sponsors propose converting 320 acres of cropped wetlands to wet prairie as well as converting about 4 miles of ditches into forested riparian management zones. The sponsors propose to offer credit for sale for mitigation of both wetlands and for streambank and riparian zones.

Written comments must be received by Aug 9, 2006, and should be addressed to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, ATTN: CENWP-OP-G (Corrie Veenstra), P.O. Box 2946, Portland OR 97208-2946.

A copy of the proposed mitigation bank is posted on the Corps’ Internet site at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.
