Initial committee meeting scheduled July 17, in Cascade Locks, Ore.
PORTLAND, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that the Bradford Island Community Involvement Committee (CIC) will hold their initial meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, July 17, at the Cascade Locks City Hall-Council Chambers at 140 SW WaNaPa. The public is invited to attend this initial meeting and all future meetings of the CIC.
The purpose of the CIC is to assist the Corps in the community outreach process. With assistance from the project team, the CIC will serve as a conduit to the community and particular interest groups they represent, providing public participation opportunities regarding the investigation and proposed clean-up actions at Bradford Island. The Corps is committed to developing and implementing a comprehensive community involvement program to share information and gather input from community members, users of the Columbia River, and other interested parties. Comments and suggestions given by the CIC will be helpful to the project team in the decision-making process related to the ongoing investigation and clean-up efforts.
The Corps has been investigating and doing cleanup work at Bradford Island since 1997 when it entered into a voluntary agreement with DEQ. It is now under the requirements and processes of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, to complete any necessary removal and cleanup activities.
