U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to host Invasive Species Outreach Workshop

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Bonneville Lock and Dam is rounding up a posse to search out a dangerous character: invasive species.

The Corps will host an Invasive Species Outreach Workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6 in the Bradford Island Visitor Center at Bonneville Lock and Dam.

Like outlaws of old, invasive species sneak in and manage to find a foothold in otherwise quiet communities. This free educational event, sponsored by the 100th Meridian Initiative – Columbia River Basin group and the Klickitat County Technical Committee, will talk about invasive species threatening the Columbia River Basin.

Designed to discuss invasive species and the problems they cause, the workshop strives to provide accurate information to adults without a lot of technical jargon. Topics will include the importance of prevention and control and steps individuals and groups can take to prevent introduction and spread of invasive species in their communities.

The Bradford Island Visitor Center is located at Bonneville Lock and Dam at Exit 40 on I-84. Follow the signs to the Visitor Center, stop at the entrance guard station then proceed one mile to the Bradford Island Visitor Center. The program will be held on the third floor of the visitor center in the theater.

For more information on this event, please contact Jill Hardiman (509) 538-2299 Ext 201, U.S. Geological Survey, or Tim Darland (541) 374-4551, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
