Corps reviews permit applications for Klamath and Benton counties in Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing two permit applications requesting a Department of the Army permit for certain work in waters of the United States.

Public Notice 199601152/2, requested by Aquatic Lawn Growers, Inc. The project is located within the Winema National Forest, in Klamath County, near Chiloquin, Ore. The site is in wetlands adjacent to a tributary to the Sprague River. This project was previously authorized by the Corps on Nov. 22, 2000, however, the applicant has not initiated work or requested an extension, and the permit has expired. The proposed project includes construction of a 13-acre water ski basin and would include excavation of 28,000 cubic yards of material from both the wetlands and the uplands on the project site, and filling a bermed basin with water. The footprint of the basin and surrounding berm would cover approximately 10.32 acres of wetlands. Comments must be received by March 3, 2006.

Public Notice 199700259, requested by Corvallis Industrial Park, LLC. The project is located within Corvallis, in Benton County, Ore. The proposed project is to develop five existing lots within Corvallis Industrial Park and will involve placing approximately 952 cubic yards of fill material on approximately 0.6 acre of wetlands. Comments must be received by March 13, 2006.

The Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments from the public, federal, state and local agencies, Indian Tribes and other interested parties on these permit requests. The Corps will issue or deny any permit under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or under Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
