Recreational boats have precedence during these times

PORTLAND, ORE. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced the winter schedule for recreational vessel owners through Columbia and Snake river dams.

Beginning Sept. 16, upstream lockages will be at 8 a.m., 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., with downstream lockages at 8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at Bonneville, The Dalles, John Day and McNary navigation locks on the Columbia River; Ice Harbor, Lower Monumental, Little Goose and Lower Granite navigation locks on the Snake River. The schedule will remain in effect until May 14, 2005.

Recreational vessel operators have precedence over commercial vessels during the designated times. At other times, recreational vessels may be allowed to lock through with commercial craft, at the discretion of the lock master.

Consideration will be given for special lockages for flotillas or other organized events sponsored by yacht clubs, marinas, and other groups, provided 24-hour advance arrangements are made with the appropriate location.
